Mzansi has questioned Sbu’s age, who usually celebrates his birthdays privately. His actual age is much younger than his onset age; on Uzalo, Simphiwe plays a 39-year-old senior bachelor. The Sbu role is characterized by a charming gangster of Kwa Mashu who is pleaded his association to the Bhebhe family.
Sbu was in a relationship with Fikile – the role played by actress Nelisa Mchunu who he named the Beyonce of KwaMashu. Sbu’s major setback came when Fikile exited Uzalo, a move that left Uzalo fans heartbroken. Onscreen, Sbu was overjoyed when Fikile lied to him that she was pregnant. The joy of expecting overcome him to the extent of walking around showing off a negative reading pregnancy test that earned him the nickname Baba ka Remembrance.
In real life, Simphiwe was born on 7 November 1989 and married to politician and businesswoman Kekeletso Mahlelebe, a Democratic Alliance councillor in eThekwini ward 45. The couple is blessed with one daughter.
Qualified with a Degree in Marketing Management, Sbu doesn’t have an acting qualification. He joined Uzalo as a supporting cast member, but the show producers created a role for him after his impressive acting skills. Having grown in the Uzalo storyline, Sbu is one of the most paid cast members getting a stunning R65 000 per month.
