She is one of  Mzansi’s finest when it comes to acting. Her unmatched talent has made her one of Mzansi’s most-followed star actresses. No doubt it’s everyone’s dream to be on Uzalo and it takes one’s craft competence to outshine others in a starred cast. With more than 9.4 million viewership under its flagship, Uzalo is the most followed drama series in  Mzansi and it’s not plot back.

Despite have a seasoned cast without little or no educational background but pure talent the drama series has wowed Mzansi for seasons. However, Uzalo’s Cocoa is making all sorts of headlines of late. She has been killing her role and we can’t get enough of her. But who is she it seems as if she just came out of the blue?

Nomalanga Shabane is a South African actress best known for Love Lives Here, The Letter Reader and for portraying Cocoa on Uzalo SABC 1. The fizzy actress was born on the 30th of November 1993. She was born in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.

The 27-year-old is a trilingual speaker who can speak Zulu, IsiXhosa and English. She is one of the few actresses who can act using several native languages in Mzansi and this has made her one of Mzansi’s finest. Cocoa from Uzalo attended Glenhaven Secondary School. After that, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education – TLE via the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Nomalanga appeared in films and dramas before her fame. This includes a 2019 short film called The Letter Reader, which walked away with a Golden Horn accolade for Best Short Film at the South African Film and Television Awards. She acted as Nobuhle Mthembu. Again in 2019, she portrayed a female colleague on Love Lives Here. In 2021 she landed a role on Uzalo as Cocoa, a beautiful woman who is only after money. She’s a magosha and a gold digger.

“Uzalo is the biggest show in Mzansi. I’m sure every youngster wishes to be part of it. What I like the most about it is that it discovered a lot of previously hidden talent. And it exposed talent and skills in youth.

There are actors who are popular and have grown because of this telenovela. And I believe the Cocoa character will open a lot of doors for me,” said Nomalanga.
